Golf weather apps compared: is a $30-a-year app worth it?

A dedicated golf weather app costs about as much as a sleeve of premium balls a year. Whether that is worth it depends on a question the app stores do not ask: do you want more weather, or do you want to be told which morning to book?

Updated 16 September 2026.

What a golf weather app gives you

Weather4Golf is the one most golfers will find first. The App Store lists it as Golf Weather – Weather4Golf, subtitle Wind, Rain & Tee Time Planner; free to download, with premium at $4.99 a month, $12.99 a quarter, $29.99 a year or $89.99 for life (App Store listing, read 16 September 2026). The job, as the subtitle says, is planning a tee time around wind and rain: the forecast for the course, hour by hour, in a golfer's terms. If you play several times a week and want to look at the weather through a golfer's eyes every time, that is what it is for, and $30 a year is not much for it.

What it does not do

It shows you the weather. You still decide. You open it on Tuesday, look at Saturday, look again on Wednesday, look again on Thursday, and somewhere in there decide whether to book the 8:40 or the 2:10 or to wait for Sunday. For a keen golfer that is half the pleasure. For everyone else it is the chore that the good Saturday slips past in the middle of.

What Perfect Day does instead

Perfect Day is not a golf app. It is a watcher. You describe your round once — say, 55° to 82°, wind under 12 mph and gusts under 20, rain chance under 15%, at least four dry hours in a row between 7 am and 1 pm, any weekend day — and it checks the next sixteen days every three hours against that, across five weather models. When a morning in the next ten matches, you get one message: Saturday morning. 7 to 1, 61–72°, wind under 8. If it falls through, you hear that too. Otherwise it says nothing. $5 a year after a free month; the same account covers the course, the trail and the beach, with a different idea of a good day for each.

The honest comparison is this: Weather4Golf is a better instrument for looking at golf weather. Perfect Day is for not looking, and being told. Some golfers will want both. Nobody needs both prices in their head to decide which they are.

Who you'll bring

The round you will remember is rarely the one with the best score. It is the one with your father on the still morning in October, or the first nine with a twelve-year-old who has just stopped topping the ball, or the Saturday you and your partner finally played together because the weather said yes and neither of you had to plan it. That is the morning Perfect Day is for. The app tells you which day; you make the memory. For families · For couples · How far ahead you can trust the forecast.

These are the days you'll remember

Perfect Day watches the weather for the places you love and sends one plain heads-up, days ahead, when a good day is coming.
